How Can severe Redness And Pain In The Toe Be Treated?

I am a 63 year old female. I stubbed my little toe on my right foot on the leg of a storage ottoman last Friday. It was extremely painful. I couldn t wear shoes for four days. It seems to be getting better. I saw my doctor for an annual physical yesterday and he looked at my foot and said it seemed to be OK. Today however the toe next to the little toe is red and warm to the touch and is extremely painful if I touch it on the top right side of the toe. What do you think is wrong with my toe?
